Dosage Information
Initial Dose:
50mg - larger, younger, more anxious
40mg - slightly smaller, older, less anxious
30mg - a common starting dose in the hospital
20mg - e.g., 75y/o, 120lb woman ASA3
10mg - e.g., COPD or 90y/o or impaired alertness
The Penalty Axiom:
The penalty of a lower and safer initial dose is a few seconds of time. You can always give more but only time and circulating blood removes propofol from the effect compartment.
